The Ceremony

We’re not traditional people, so of course this is not going to be a traditional wedding ceremony. Instead, it’ll be a week-long celebration. We will gather for a short ceremony to exchange vows on Saturday afternoon, but other than that, we’ll basically just hang out, explore the city, eat delicious food, and have a good time.

One of the things we’re really looking forward to is the great food. We’re enlisting everyone’s help to scout the best places to eat in the city, as well as any other fun things to explore together (we’ll need to do *something* between meals!). Because of the size of the group, varying schedules, and diverse tastes, we will most likely break out into smaller groups each day. Balsamic vinegar fans might be interested in taking a short jaunt to the nearby town of Modena for vinegar tasting. We can hunt for interesting frescoes (murals) or flying spaghetti monster sightings. The sky is the limit!

We also have an important mission for you as you explore the city: to scout the perfect pace for our flash mob wedding ceremony! We’d love to find a public place for the entire group to descend upon and watch as we exchange our vows on Saturday afternoon. It could be a tiny courtyard where the lighting is just right, a beautiful park, or any place that seems like a memorable spot. As you go about your explorations, keep an eye out for potential spots and take photos! We’ll gather all of the suggestions and make a decision about the location which will be announced Saturday morning.

The ceremony will be done in tribute to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, the closest thing to religion that Rob & Aleta have. It will be brightly colored, silly, and improvisational, taking cues from Burning Man culture, Pastafarianism, and our own personal style. We are encouraging our guests (/participants) to wear circus- or playa- style clothing and  colanders on their heads or find other creative ways to honor the FSM. The ceremony will be lighthearted and the vows will be spoken from the heart.

The location will be announced on Saturday morning, and then at 4pm on Saturday, we will parade through the city in our colanders to the designated location and hold the ceremony for everyone present.

Please let us know if you plan to attend, so we can add you to the Facebook wedding page or get your mobile number to notify you of the location once it’s determined.
